KBD Spotlight - August

Hi!

(Update):
Sorry everyone, I totally forgot that I had scheduled this a while back!!  HAHAHA!  Due to my own personal reasons I am no longer a part of the KBD team.  Sorry for the confusion!!  As you can tell I'm taking a break from the crafting world and hope to be back soon.  As to when that will be I'm not sure yet.  Thanks for your support and kind words!  I'll keep this up because I worked really hard on it, but just know that this is not on the Spotlight page at Kitty Bee Designs.  Thanks!! ^_^v

A Kitty Bee Designs 2016 calendar - January

Hi everyone!

Hope you're all doing something relaxing on the first Monday of the new year.  Me?  Well I'm at work cause it's a work day for me.  I know, I know, the injustice of it all right?  hahaha!  Well that's what I get for going in to a field where the only holidays we observe aren't the same as the city or the school system.  Sigh...  hahaha!

Although the Kitties & the Bees are on hiatus I wanted to continue to share here.  For today I've got the front of a calendar plus January from my 2016 calendar I made with Kitty Bee Designs images. Through out the year I'll be sharing each page for my monthly spotlight here and on the KBD blog.  First up is the cover...

I used a nice spring-like patterned paper, La-La Land Crafts die cut numbers and Firecracker Panda from Kitty Bee Designs.  Below is my January page featuring Bathtime Pup.

  

Each of the pages in the calendar are clean & simple and are not traditional, as in the theme of the month might not be what you might expect it to be.  I decided to make a calendar based on my idea for each month and using the Kitty Bee Design images made it so simple.  The calendars themselves are from Taylored Expressions and this year I was mindful enough to only buy 10.  (lol)  Yes, I learned my lesson last year.  Well I'll wrap it up now, thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll get to play with some stamps, papers and markers today while I'm at work slaving away... lol!!  Bye!

25 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 7 KBD Spotlight

Season's Greetings friends!

Today is day 7 in my 25 Days of Christmas challenge.  I'm spotlighting this card over on the Kitty Bee Designs blog today.  That must mean it's the first Monday of DECEMBER!!!  Can you believe there's only 18 days until Christmas!!  Woo Hoo!!  Hopefully you've already gotten your shopping started or making those lists for who's been naughty or nice this year.  If you're like me you start early and buy things throughout the year.  The problem is finding the hiding places I put them in!  hahaha!  

I'm spotlighting 2 of our cute Christmas Penguins: Reindeer Christmas Penguin & Hollie Christmas Penguin.  I printed them out lighter than usual and colored them with some light colors.  Hopefully you can see them, it was a bit hard to photograph and edit without washing either of them out.  I took a close up so you can see them below.  You can't tell but I added WOS to the star, nose, holly leaves and bell.  It truly looks pretty IRL.  I promise!  (hahaha)

I used non-traditional Christmas colors for this card, but I'm finding that doesn't really fit anymore.  With the Frozen movie it seems these are considered Christmas colors too.  Or at least Winter colors. The igloo is from the November  La-La Land Club kit.  Yep after die cutting it I glued on each of the tiles back!  In case you were wondering I added a piece of cardstock to the back to making gluing easier.  The stitched borders are from MFT, the snowflakes are from C. C. Designs and the rolling hills were created with Mama Elephant stitched dies.  I added WOS on the snowflakes and added a touch of lavender rhinestones for a nice little bling.  I handwrote, "Happy Holidays From our Igloo to yours."  I thought it was a cute sentiment for this card.

This is perfect for day 4 of my 25 days of Christmas Challenge with Kathy & Linda.  As soon as I saw the sample for Ellie the Elf I wanted to do similar colors for the card.  So picking some non-traditional Christmas colors was what I did here.  Had some fun with a few Christmas dies to create the ornaments.  The patterned paper was a nice find during Black Friday at Michael's.  Love all the chalkboard patterns in black, chalk white, red and green.

This is Bewitched Night and I thought to myself, she is one adorable witch.  =D  I added several different flowers from Recollections & Leeza Gibbons in varying colors and designs.  I've got no green thumb but I do like the contrasts.  It's been a while since I incorporated clouds into my projects, so I thought this image needed some.  I used some Distress ink (Pumice Stone) to create the clouds and went over it with E40 & E41 to give it a vintage feel.  I love how the doily goes off the page just a little bit.  I didn't have a handy Halloween sentiment so I hand wrote one myself.

Don't forget to stop by the challenge blog to see all the animal inspirations from the Design Team using our sponsor's images or Kitty Bee Designs images.  I've got a few fun projects I came up with using the cute Lion Topper courtesy of our wonderful sponsor.

I went on the internet to see how others used this fun image and got some great ideas.  I decided to go super CAS by printing off Lion and adding a fun sentiment using Word doc.  I accidentally cut off the bottom part of the sentiment so when printed it left off the word "birthday".  No biggie, I die cut "birthday" using a Mama Elephant word font and it fit perfectly!  Cut the white panel out with an MFT stitched die and another panel with another MFT stitched die in the mustard yellow cardstock.  This card is ready to be sent to someone special.  All were adhered to the black card.  Here are a few more CAS projects I made with the same image and funny sentiments (generated in Word doc)...

Changed up the sentiment and now this card is ready to use or add to my card stash.  I had some time to do something simple with the inside of the card.

Next one up is a funny one.  I used some older patterned paper here and layered up.

KBD October Spotlight

Hello!

It's the first Monday of October and here I am back with a spotlight post here and over on the Kitty Bee Designs blog.  For this month's spotlight I decided to alter a candy bar with some fun Halloween patterned paper, and Ninja Pup from Kitty Bee Designs.

This was fairly easy to make.  I cut down the Halloween patterned paper first, used double-sided tape to glue it down, cut an orange strip of patterned paper and glued it the same way to make a band around the bar.  I cut down some circles using MFT stitched circles, more of the patterned paper and a scrap of black cardstock.  After coloring and fun-cutting Ninja Pup I popped him in to the center and the project was done.

When I think of summer fun I think of the beach.  Riding bikes down the pathway, having some shave ice, flying a kite or swimming in the ocean.  If I had a little more room I would have loved to have put in a volleyball court.  hahaha!  In this scene I captured all of those activities using a few of the Kitty Bee Design images.  Most of this was colored with Copic markers and a small part with Distress inks.  Going clockwise from the left, first up taking a nice leisurly ride is Bike Panda, next way out in the ocean surfing is Narwhal Love, coming in a little closer on the sand enjoying the nice breeze and flying his kite is Kite Panda, and last, enjoying a snow cone is Shave Ice Bun.  Also used a LLLC stitched sun & cloud die and two AmyR sentiments which I wet embossed with clear powder.

KBD July Spotlight

Hi everyone!!

Today I'm spotlighting this card on the Kitty Bee Designs blog!!

This card was created with the adorable Cupcake Surprise Pup!  I have used this pup for a few of my cards, he's just so darn cute and perfect for any birthday card.  This time around I colored him up with some spots, including a heart spot right above his eyebrow.  I also colored the cupcake really bright, not as bright as the dp, but bright enough.  :D  This is the third card that was sent to my SSS for May.  Those cool words were cut out with some new Mama Elephant word dies and I love how I can overlap the image but not take anything away from it.

For this challenge I thought Kitty Sewing by KBD was the purrfect image to use.  I decided to go with some dies that have stitched patterns in them, including the border die from MFT, the other stitched bracket die, By DIEzyne, to cut out my image has a nice stitched border, and the buttons border die from LLLC tied it all together.  The sentiment, swatch die and scissors are also from LLLC.  I used scraps of DCWV patterned paper to make the swatches. love the different patterns on each of the swatches.  The sentiment makes me smile.

May begins a month of birthdays for me, so trying to come up with something simple yet cute was my goal here.  I think I nailed it.  This cutie is Cupcake Surprise Pup and boy was I happily surprised to find him in the Etsy store.  He's available for purchase and while you're there why not pick up a few more cute images to go along with him?   Just sayin'... hahaha!

Kitty Bee Designs DT Spotlight

Good morning!

Hope you are all recovering nicely from the Easter weekend.  Today I'm sharing a spotlight of the card below over at the Kitty Bee Designs blog.

I don't know about you but I'm always running out of cards for my stash.  The one that I don't have too many of are baby cards.  I used the cute sheep from the KDB Zodiac Set II in the Etsy shop to create the card above.  Other materials I used: MFT bib die, a fun embossing folder to give the white cardstock a nice texture, the sentiment is computer generated and the patterned paper is from my stash. 

Keeping the card CAS was the key here.  Now I have something cute to add to my stash and use when the occasion arises.

A very CAS design for this sweet image.  Colored with Copics I used minimal colors.  For the background behind her I colored it in then using a multi-liner pen I hand wrote Easter.  Gives it sort of a graffiti backdrop.  Matted the images to a black piece of cardstock and I was done.  I had fun with my EK border punch to make the panels in white. They lined up perfectly vertically and horizontally.  Last to go on was the handwritten sentiment and it was done.

My KBD DT Swap card

Hello!!

Today I'm back to share the card I sent to my swap partner, Michelle Nutter.  I decided to turn it in to a tutorial so this post will be choke full of pictures with some details.  So first I should share the card right?!  Okie dokes, here it is...

I wanted to create a card that was different than my usual.  I remembered a conversation Zoe, Make It Crafty owner, started in the MIC FB group regarding selective embossing.  Meaning emboss around the image without embossing it.   Does that make sense?  Well that's what I did with this card.  Yes, that white panel on the front is all one layer!!   I found this great video tutorial HERE which gives you the run down on how it all comes together along with some options on diffusers.  You can either purchase the TH diffusers or make your own.  Check out the video if my pictures below don't inspire you. (haha, don't worry I won't be offended, hahaha!)  I decided to make my own diffuser since I already had the chipboard and wanted to keep this as cost effective as possible. (Yes I was being cheap!! hahaha!!)

Here goes the tutorial:

Print/stamp your image(s).  Give yourself enough room to die cut and emboss around the image(s)

Santa Christmas Penguin & Hollie Christmas Penguin

Trim chipboard to same size as your printed image and use die to cut out your desired shape, thus creating a window.  You want to either make the diffuser bigger than the paper or else you'll emboss something that you might not have wanted to. 

Grab your embossing folder and put the stamped image inside.  Using washi tape adhere the chipboard over the image, keep the image as close to the center of the "window" as possible.

Create your sandwich for your embossing, die-cutting machine.  Here I used A & C and a few shims.  It worked out pretty well.  You'll have to experiment on this part, it varies on how deep you want the embossed part to look.

The end result... So cool!

Here's what I did for the rest of the sheet.  Used DI Spun Sugar, Milled Lavendar and Tumbled Glass. I also grabbed the cut out chipboard and placed it over my image to make sure I did not get any color on it.

Subtlety adding color using the sponge tool and circular strokes I went around the embossed area with each color making sure to space each color out.  With 1 color (Tumbled glass)

Here it is with two different colors (Tumbled Glass & Spun Sugar)

Here it is with all three colors...  Once you are satisfied with the inking you can remove the chipboard mask.

Here is the end result...   I forgot to take a picture of the die cut panel, but you get the gist of it right? Just check out the card at the top of this post to see what I mean.

I added that Season's Greetings laser cut sentiment from Island Scrapbooking which matched this card perfectly.  I also cut up some snowflakes using the CC Cutters from CC Designs.

Using a pink based card I matted a purple patterned paper and added some faux stitches with a white gel pen.  Oh and I also added some of those floral looking sequins.  I absolutely love how this turned out and I am so happy that Michelle did as well.  (Whew! Yay! hahaha)
