Visiting with Crafty Friends - Part II

Hello!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Yesterday I shared some pictures from my Hawaii vacation including a picture of my dinner date with Karen I and Jenny S.  I also shared a few pictures of the gifts I received from Karen as well as the frame I made for her.  If you didn't get a chance to see it just scroll down one post.  Today I am going to share another fun picture from dinner, my awesome gifts from Jenny and the frame I made for her.  First up is this picture of Jenny and Karen and their dinners...

Doesn't their food look ono?!  And check out the huge portions!  I think we all could have shared just the two dishes and we would have been fine.  hahaha.  Did I mention we were kindly asked to leave aka "kicked out" of our booth?  Well not sure if you can see way in the back, but there were plenty people waiting to eat dinner, and since we also had to wait a good 30 minutes for a table I didn't feel too upset with the server.  We probably could have kept on talking we were having such a good time.  Take a look at all the pretty crafty items I received from Jenny, including more laser cut words from Island Scrapbooking!  Hey, I'm easy! hahaha!

Crafty gifts from Jenny S ~ Oh Happy Day!

I can't wait to play with these.  She even wrapped some up in really cute paper with strips of washi tape that I plan on re-using.  Hey, I don't miss an opportunity to re-cycle when I can.  Especially when it's such cute stuff.  I even received a booklet from the Aulani!  I know she and her family recently visited, so I was pretty stoked to find something from there in my package.  Thank you so much Jenny for all the fun and gorgeous crafty supplies!!  I love everything!!  Including that beautiful bag.  I plan to do the same thing I am doing with all the lovely gifts from Karen, use them sparingly and only for special projects.  hehehe...  Here is the frame I altered featuring one of my favorite Sister Stamps images, Kiyomi.

Doesn't it look like Kiyomi is trying to pet the bird?  :)  I have to confess something.  I made the scene almost a year ago and wanted to send it to Jenny way back when!  The problem was, I couldn't figure out how to finish it!  hahaha!  It sat on my desk for the longest time asking to be finished but I just couldn't figure out how.  So I brought it with me to Hawaii as a card with the intention of giving it to her like that.  Then I found the frames and my brain took off in another direction.  Little did I know it was one that paid off!  I bought the pink washi paper and white pearl decorations along with the frame.  I did the same technique with this frame as I did with Karen's and the end result made my heart Happy, Happy, Happy! (lol)

Kiyomi (Sister Stamps)

The paper is from Paula Deen (yes Paula Deen has a crafts line as well as a cooking line) it's a small line, but a fun one.  The bird and birdcage are all Tim Holtz Sizzix dies.  I embossed the cage and then used distress inks to make it look shabby.  Added the pearls to the bottom of the cage for another touch of shabby.  As for the bird, I used an old Hero Arts background stamp over the pink paper.  I used a 3-D adhesive to pop up the wing outside the cage.  I am so pleased with how this turned out and it only took a year to figure it out!  Eep!! Better late than never. ^.^

Gift card holders

Morning everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  I certainly did.  Every Christmas our close friends come over and we have breakfast, open presents, and just hang out.  This year was no different.  We had breakfast watched some movies, opened presents and ending the evening with Sukiyaki and desserts.  We also got some facetime with our ohana on the Big Island. That was pretty cool.  Love technology!  All-in-all a wonderful Christmas day to remember, so thankful for family and friends.  Hoping you all enjoyed your Christmases as well.

For the next couples posts I'll share the last of my Christmas projects.  Hoping you all don't get sick of them. lol..  So up today are the gift card holders.  All were pretty CAS.  Used papers to dictate the scenes and some with an image.  The first set uses papers from Wild Rose Studios and I went with a red, white and soft green theme.  Added either ribbon or twine to make sure the cards stayed closed.  The sentiments are all AmyR.

Lilo's Fun Friday #40

Happy Aloha Friday everyone!!

I'm over at Renate's and we are working on the last details before we trek to Sacramento.  Looks like we are not getting any sleep, so who else is awake with us?  My sistas from Hawaii?!! Gimme a holla!  hehehe...

For today's LFF #40 share I have one of the first Sister Stamps playing on my card.  Say hello to Kiyomi and her little friend.

I've always wanted to do this masking technique, so decided to give it a go. First I stamped the cherry blossom background using different shades of Fall colored Distress inks.  Next I used an oval Spellbinder die to cut out that shape and using removable tape adhered it to the center of the card.  Next I used more Distress ink and went around the card. When I was satisfied I removed the oval in the center and ta-da!!  A nice white frame perfect for Kiyomi and her butterfly friend.  The rest of the card came together pretty fast and I found the perfect sentiment to go with. Thanks AmyR for always having the right saying when I need one.

Lollipop Crafts #70 - CAS

Happy Monday everyone!
Hoping you all had a terrific weekend.  As you know I was busy, busy, busy this weekend.  Crafting that is.  Hoping to share some of those with you all soon.  But for now, I have a CAS aka Clean And Simple card to share with you in honor of our new challenge at Lollipop Crafts.  So it's pretty simple, create a clean and simple card.  I know I know, this might be one of thee hardest kinds of cards to make for some of you, but I think this would be a fun opportunity to step outside the box and see if you can.  I know how hard it can be, but with some fun papers and a cute image you too can accomplish one.

For my CAS card I took a page out of my blogging friend, Donna Mikasa's book.  She is the queen of CAS.  I just love how she takes an image and makes it the focal point on her cards.  Please make sure to visit her blog if you haven't already.  I decided to case this adorable card she created with the new Sister Stamps image, Daba.  I loved the white on white with Daba as the focal point.   Here is my card using another Sister Stamps image, Kiyomi.

I used the reverse wonky rectangle Spellbinders to cut the card and image, then using distress inks peeled paint & crushed olive I added some color to the inside of the image still making her the focal point.  The sentiment is from the newest AmyR collection called Be Happy Sentiments and I punched it out with a Stampin' Up circle punch.  I thought it was perfect for that spot in the corner.   I'm not too sure you can see unless you click on the picture, but the card base is actually embossed with daisies.  That's how the paper came when I bought it from Hanko Designs.  The ribbon is from my stash.  And there you have it, a clean and simple card.

Lilo's Fun Friday #17

Happy Aloha Friday everyone!

Welcome to my new blogging buddies Norma, Tan, & Carol!  It's so nice to have you here, I hope you get inspired.  ;)

Before I get to today's LFF #17, I wanted to say Arigato to Nadine and Thanh for linking up.  Although Nadine didn't want the stamp (she was the guest designer for Sister Stamps so she already had Miyako) I was so happy that she linked up.  That means the winner of the Miyako stamp is Thanh!!  Woo Hoo!!  Thanh be sure to email me your snail mail address so I can get Miyako out to you.  Here is what she had to say about the Sister Stamps line:

It's so true what she said.  I whole heartedly agree.  Now here is my share for this week.  I have been wanting to use some of my neglected Copic colors.  Especially the blues.  I had a fun time with the FBW #190, Anything with Wings challenge post so I thought I would make another one using one of my creative friend's handmade dragonflies and cute little Kiyomi from Sister Stamps.

Here is a very simple design that doesn't really need a lot for it to work.  The card is actually 4x4, I just enlarged it a bit so you can see the details.  I replaced the butterfly that comes with Kiyomi with the dragonfly.  The dragonfly in orange really gives this a pretty amazing feel especially because it's so much bigger than Kiyomi. Sorta looks like she's in the distance and reaching to pet it.

 The dragonfly is sitting on a (Tim Holtz) mini paper rosette.  The rest of the card is dark blue cs (Recollections) layered with an origami paper (Aitoh) and the frame to match. 

Kiyomi is colored with Copics (list below) and I kept it simple by leaving her band white as well as her collar.  I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, keeping the focus on Kiyomi and her new dragonfly friend.

Lilo's Fun Friday #8

Happy Dec 2nd everyone!  Can you believe we are already into December?  Yikes, time is flying by so fast.  Talking about flying fast, we have been experiencing some crazy winds (100 mph) the past couple of nights.  Power is out at my house and it happened while I was in the middle of finishing the card I'm going to share.  As I was driving in to work there were lots of downed trees and power was out in some areas.  Hopefully the city workers will be able to get things back to "normal" and that they are safe while doing it. 

So for today's Fun Friday share, I'm taking a break from Christmas to share another Thank you card featuring Kiyomi from Sister Stamps.  I'm playing along with the new Flutter By Wednesday Challenge which is a recipe: blue, lace, 3 or more flowers and one butterfly.  One of my favorite colors is blue, any kind of blue so this challenge really appealed to me.  I chose Kiyomi because she comes with her very own butterfly.  And I have been wanting to try to add a lacey doily to a card after I saw my Lollipop teammate, Cyndi's card.  Thanks for the inspiration Cyndi! :)

I originally had Kiyomi inside an oval cut out, but then I messed up on her sash and it started to bleed.  I couldn't fix it, so I decided to cut her out.  Easy fix, but I wasted the paper.  (boo!)  Then I had to cut out the butterfly.  I stamped the butterfly on the Hanko cs and glued the colored one on top.  The doily is actually one that I "saved" from lunch at the Double Tree hotel.  If it's clean I save it, I automatically put it in my purse so it doesn't get messed up..  LOL!  Hey who else doesn't do that?  I call it recycling.  hahaha!  The sentiment is handwritten by yours truely and I used a scallop punch and some white ink to decorate it.

I punched out more than the required 3 sakura flowers in black and white.  At first I didn't know what to do with them, that's when the power went out!  hahaha!  I knew I wanted to add them to the top right corner, just couldn't figure out how.  Then I started playing with drawing in some branches with a pencil, (all of this by candlelight).  Once I got it to how I liked it I went over it with a Copic marker and dropped the flowers down.  It was perfect!  I added some pearl pen dots in white to the black flowers and also to the white, then I used a blue Copic marker and colored the white dots on the white flowers blue..  Whew! hahaha!  The only sparkle on this card is the butterfly.  Hope you like.  :)

Lilo's Fun Friday

Happy Friday everyone!!
O wow, I can't believe it's already Friday!!  Whoo hoo!!  Heading out of town to visit my sister, should be good fun.  Maybe I'll stop at a few shops along the way...  hm...  that sounds dangerous!  hahaha!!

Here is another Thank you card I made using another of the cute Sister Stamps, this time I used Kiyomi from the first set.  Hey Kris, no worries girly, you're still way ahead of me on the stamps.  LOL! :)

She is such a sweet little girl and the way she is reaching for the butterfly makes her so carefree.  I stamped her in brown and then colored her up using Copics.  I had so much fun coloring her hair, love pink hair!  Die cut her out using the wonky rectangle dies and using some distress inks and my cloud stencil I made, well a cloud background.  (haha)  I used some fun K&Co patterned paper and added some subtle browns to the edges to give it a warmer tone.  The sentiment is from the retired sentiment set by The Greeting Farm.  I love how the dp matches the image's colors and how it is truly CAS. :)

Hello my name is Kiyomi and I live in Hawaii with my two sisters Mei Li & Mei Lin and we are part of the newest family owned stamp company called Sister Stamps.  We were born out of love and hope to be able to share some happiness with you. (hehe)

 Hello Friends!!
Yes, I'm poppin' in today to share another card.  Have you heard of Sister Stamps?   They are a new family owned company who just released their first set of adorable Asian girl stamps.  If you haven't seen them or heard about them you should definitely pop over to their blog to be introduced.  You will fall in love like the rest of us.  Be sure to head on over to their blog and congratulate Jenny and her sister Denise on their wonderful and exciting new venture.  Their Aunty Jan has been crafting up a storm with these cuties.  You'll definitely be inspired.

I have to give a shout out to Pineapple Cove's Manle for shipping out my package within a few days, which included the holiday.  Since the stamps are only sold in Hawaii, it would have been very hard for me to get there with out making a long trip out of it.  So I ordered them online and received my stamps within a few days.  That fast!  Thank you Manle for the awesome service!!  I didn't expect to get them so fast, you must have known how bad I wanted them.  (hehe)  You rock! 

For this card I wanted to keep it simple and just have the focal point on the adorable Kiyomi.  I went with a simple framed layout and built it up.  Here is a close up of Kiyomi with an altered sakura in her hair.  I tried to color the original flowers but the color was just too dark it almost blended with her hair.  Since the image was already colored I didn't want to stamp & color her again.  So I punched out a sakura flower and cut it to the shape of the original ones.  I think I hid them pretty well.  The other problem I had was coloring her kimono.  The red marker I was using was messing up the paper.  It wasn't until I found this awesome "tip" on the Tickled Pink Blog that I figured out what happened.  Again, I didn't want to scrap this image so I tried to do the best that I could and salvage her.  I think  I did a pretty good job.  I love the washi paper behind her.  I know you can't tell but there are gold flakes, with subtle whites behind her.  It's very pretty in person.

Here is a better photo of the paper.  I know they don't look like gold flakes but they are. (hehe)

The rest of the card came together pretty fast after that.  I used an embossing folder, my newest Spellbinder, which I got in the mail the same day my stamps came.  (whoo hoo!) and the smaller sakura punches.  O and I can't for get Kiyomi's little butterfly friend just fluttering a bit out of her reach.  He's such a rascal!  (hehe)

I can't wait to play with the other two sisters, Mei Li and Mei Lin.  Hopefully I will have time this weekend.  Crossing my fingers. (hehe)  I think I will play along at the Flutter by Wednesday challenge #161 where anything goes.
