Y&FH Special Winter Preview

Good morning!!

Welcome to a special day at Yumi & Fumi Handmade. Today you are in for a treat!! It’s WINTER RELEASE PREVIEW DAY!!! We just couldn't wait for RELEASE DAY to share, we had to do it today! We are thrilled to introduce our new Winter images, and two new characters.

To help us inspire you all we asked a few special guests to work their magic. Now if you thought our DT was awesome, you were right, and we've got more awesome ladies to help us out.  If you want to know who they are you'll have to head on over to our blog.  If you want a hint, all I can say is they are awesome! Yea, not so much of a hint huh?  hehehe, well it's because I want you to jump over to our blog and "see".

I am so excited to see everyone's creations and all the pretty bright colors!! I hope you will join me in saying a well deserved Mahalo to those really amazing crafty ladies who I am very honored to call friends.

Now do I have anything to share?  hmmm... Yup!  hahaha!

First up is one of our new characters who some of you might recognize, or not.  His name is Chuckles and well he's named after a very special person in my life.  My cousin Chuck.  He's ALWAYS got a smile on his face even when he's in a bad mood.  He's super friendly and an all-around fantastic guy.  We grew up together and now that he lives on this side of the mountain we get to see more of each other which is always wonderful.  I hope he likes what we created in his name.

I love how this scene turned out.  That is a MIC winter background and I merged Chuckles behind the fence.  He is actually Christmas tree shopping and is excited that he found the perfect tree.  Yes there is a tree under all that snow. lol!  The bottom sentiment is from AmyR, the other one was computer generated.  See those black snowflakes?  Those are MIC chippies I got from SCACD, I colored them to match the dp (EP) behind.

Next up is our other new character, he's simply Yeti.  I cut him down to fit a 4x4 card because he is going to the Make a Keiki Smile card drive which requires all cards to be 4x4.  Isn't he cute?

I need to work on coloring fur because I see myself using this fella a lot for the holidays and his fur is just not cutting right now.  Yes he's wrapped in Christmas lights so I colored them all bright to match the fun dp in the background.  The sentiment is another one from AmyR.  Now the Yeti has two companions that you can use with him or separately.  Ready to meet one of his little friends?  Well I'm ready to share her with you..  Meet Yeti Fumi...

She's ready to get started on the decorating and her and her friend Yeti Yumi are in charge of the lights.  Look she's already worked her magic on that Christmas tree.  Isn't she a cutie?  :)  Well that's all I have except to say these and all rest of the images will be in the store on Monday, November 26th so mark your calendars because I have a feeling these will go pretty fast.

Lastly, I wanted to say a big MAHALO to our wonderful guests who helped us not only bring life to our characters, but inspired us with their talent.  I for one am so lucky to have not only a team to be inspired by but wonderful friends and ones too.  Thank you Jessica, Mary J, Amy, Taylor, Danni and Lou Mac for your beautiful work.  MAHALO to the DT for always making it easy for us when it comes time to work their magic.  A virtual hug to everyone!!

Lilo's Fun Friday #28 - A Special Anniversary

Happy Friday everyone!
Hope you all had a good week.  I'm really looking forward to a break from work even if it's only two days. lol!
Today I wanted to share an Anniversary card that my cousin asked me to make for her parent's 25th Anniversary.

I had so much fun making this!  I went for a slightly different kind of card.  Wanted to do an Asian theme.  I dusted off my Cricut for this one.  The kanji and the dragonflies were cut from the Asian Pagoda cartridge.  So happy I got to use it.  See that beautiful frame?  Well that is a Make It Crafty Circle Flourish Frame.  I purchased mine along with a few other MIC chippies from SCACD.  I just love how lovely the finish is on the frame.  I took some silver ink and using a sponge, sponged around it.  I know you can't really tell by this picture, but you can see the shimmer IRL.  The origami paper is from Hanko Designs.  It is a translucent white with silver flowers paper. 

Above is a close up of the frame with the kanji inside.  Glued white washi paper to a red circle and glued that to the back of the frame to give it a nice background for the kanji to stand out.  The 25 was a rub-on (which is slightly wonky) and I wrote in the "th" with a silver gel pen.

Up top I made, with the help of my friend Lisa, a Mizuhiki knot. This knot is called an abalone knot. It's also referred to as awabi musubi, the Josephine knot, or a good luck knot. It's known to be one of the easier Mizuhiki knots to make but darn if it didn't take me longer!  (hahaha)  It was so much fun trying to figure it out how to get the knot to look like the picture.  It was more fun trying to figure it out with my friend Lisa.  In the end we did it and she actually finished this off for me.  The cord is red and silver.  Alongside the knot are two dragonflys which were cut from the Cricut. I thought it was a really pretty way to symbolize their unity. 

Here is the inside of the card, and yes I actually decorated the inside.

I found this sentiment off of the internet, sorry I don't remember where, but you can google Silver Anniversary poems & sayings and you will find it.  Kept the inside simple using the red with the origami paper over top. 

Eek!  This picture is really bad, but since I already sent it out I couldn't retake it.  Oh well, just wanted to show you that I also decorated the top flap with the kanji for "celebrate" on top.  :)

Their actual anniversary was on Wednesday, so I had to make sure that the card got to my cousin before that day.  Luckily my sister was visiting for Mother's Day so it was perfect that she could hand deliver it for me.  Later that night I got a text from my cousin thanking me for making the card.  Her parents also sent me a text saying they loved it.  So happy that everyone enjoyed it including the recipients.  Shout out to my cousin, Anna, for asking me to make this card!  Love ya girl!!  :)

FBW #192 - Open Challenge w/ SCACD

Hello everyone!


Today we have a brand new challenge at Flutterby Wednesday.  It's an open challenge and we have a terrific sponsor, SCACD (Susana's Custom Art and Card Design).  For all the details on what you will be in the running for and links to the DT blogs, head on over to the Flutterby Wednesday blog.  Each of the DT received an amazing stamp from Danni plus a card showcasing their stamp.  I don't think any of us know what the others received so it will be a real treat for everyone, including me, to see what my fellow DT buds create.  I decided to use the beautiful card Danni sent me as my inspiration.

Isn't this beautiful?  I think so.  The colors are terrific and her coloring is gorgeous.  I always love her layouts and the papers she uses.  I'm so stoked I have a Danni original!!  This image is called, "If the shoe fits," illustrated by Victoria Case for SCACD.  Love the fairy's expression when the perfect shoe is found.  I went for a similar layout and changed up a few things because I made some boo-boos.  But it's always nice when that happens because then you create something that might turn out better than the original.

Here's my take on Danni's card.  I thought her being a fairy she'd enjoy and maybe rock pink hair.  I was right.  (lol)  I went with a pink and black color scheme.  As much as I loved the details on her skirt, I went the lazy way and colored it all black.  The b&w dp is from Making Memories and the pink is from Recollections and they were all matted with black cs (Recollections)

The fun part was trying to color the shell/chair.  I wanted to add a pearl like tone to it so after coloring it in I used some pearl pen and my finger to spread it around.  IRL you can see a pearly sheen, but here not so much.  I did add some sparkle to her shoes and wings.  The sentiment was handwritten.  I guess it's every woman's dream to have that perfect fit.  Right ladies?! :)
